Get
your school involved
Your
school can change what we all do. Choose a classmate
to be an 'Energy Monitor' - your very own Standby Sally
! This way you can show that your school is doing its
very best to help bring about a permanent habit change
in energy usage. And you can do the same at home .....
Standby Saturday is about the future and that's where
you all come in!
Click
here for a 'WHAT
TO DO NOW' letter for your school ... and here's
a leaflet for you to print out and give away.
In association with The Big Draw and the Royal Academy
of Engineering, here are three things your school can
do to get involved in the Standby Saturday national
event.
1. Teachers and Parents
- Get everyone drawing!
A picture can be a brilliant way to raise awareness
and remind people about switching off. So why not encourage
pupils to design eye-catching posters for a school notice
board or a window at home to support the Standby Saturday
event?
Download
your poster frame here.
The theme for the drawings should be: 'I don't waste
energy because...' or 'Switch Off overnight, every night'
or 'Shape the Future - Designing for Sustainability'
across various ages streams. See details in the gallery.
2. Enter the Poster Competition
If you would like to enter the Standby Saturday Poster
Competition, scan your best poster drawings and email
them to us. We'll put them up in the Standby Saturday
virtual gallery, so lots more people will see them!
Send your drawings by Saturday 13th October 2007 to
thebigdraw@standbysaturday.com
to enter for prizes as detailed below.
Don't forget to also put the posters in the window
to ensure your school displays it's participation towards
environmental improvement & positive habit change
against global warming.
The Royal Academy of
Engineering...
...has chosen Standby Saturday as a competition centre
awarding prizes to the best entries for ages 10's and
under, 11-17 and 18's and over.
Prizes include K-Nex, MP3 players & a digital camera
!
3. Students - Start waste-busting!
Show that you care about our planet by encouraging teachers,
head teachers and classroom assistants to switch off
standby power buttons in classrooms at the end of the
day. Ask about becoming a student 'Energy Monitor' for
your class or school & ask your school to register
with Standby Saturday for hints & tips to help you
with your important responsibilities.
If you find someone who's a 'waster' you could report
them to 'Standby Sally' featured below. Wasters will
be contacted!!
